News image

On Saturday 12th July, Henry Simmons, Richie Bailey, Ethan Ali and coach Kevin Bird attended the Junior British League play-offs at the Meres Leisure Centre, Grantham. Twenty one boys teams were playing for seven places. The five group winners would get automatic promotion, and the five runners-up would play for the remaining two places. Westfield were in a group of five and were seeded second. The team had arrived at Grantham in good time, and the boys had warmed up properly. Ramsden Delivers Again

News image

It was a magnificent fourth National single's title for Westfield's Alex Ramsden as he stormed through the U14 National Boy's Singles competition at Doncaster on Saturday 31st May. He beat surprise finalist No. 6 seed Joe Clarke 3-0 in the final but he had to dig deep in the semi-final when he had an epic battle against Yorkshire's Shayan Siraj, eventually prevailing on his fourth match point in the fifth (11-7, 10-12, 11-8, 9-11, 14-12). Afterwards, Alex said: “I’m feeling really happy that I’ve won it, because I was quite nervous today." Alex has now won National singles' titles at U11, U12, U13 and now U14 events. In addition to cap off a superb day he combined with James Smith to win the U14 doubles event retaining his title from last year. Westfield's Bhavika Mistry had some good wins on Saturday and was rewarded with a bronze medal in the U13 girl's event at the U11-14 National Championships losing in the semi-final to...
