Junior British League Results

News image

On 17th/18th October James Kelly, Richie Bailey, Patryk Polanski and Travis Holly travelled up to the Derby Arena to take part in Division 4B of the Junior British League. Their first match was against a strong Jersey Academy team and, despite two five setters by James Kelly, we were trounced 6-0. Their next match saw the team bounce back with a 4-2 win against Harrogate, Richie Bailey's 16-14 win in the fifth against Freddie Osenton-Brown showing mental toughness and he picked up a second with a straight sets win over the No. 3. James Kelly secured the other two for Westfield with two five set wins. Their third match on Saturday saw the boys in outstanding form as they beat Dublin B 5-1 with James Kelly winning two including a 12-10 in the fifth win over the No. 2 Donie Mullally. Richie also won two and Patryk Polanski contributed a singleton straight sets win over the No. 3. After a g...

Dave Long - RIP

News image

We are sad to report that on Thursday 24th September, former club Chairman, Dave Long unexpectedly passed away at Northampton General hospital after suffering a heart attack whilst playing a table tennis match in the Northampton league the previous evening. A retired chemistry teacher from Cogenhoe, Dave was a very well known face at Westfield having been a member since 1980 and had held a number of committee positions. Most recently he had been involved in helping coach the junior sessions which included introducing his grand daughters Anya and Katy to the game he loved to play. Whilst this must be a distressing time for his loved ones it is a small consolation that, when it happened, he was doing something that gave him a huge amount of enjoyment. Our sincere condolences to his wife, family and friends on such a sudden and tragic loss. The funeral has been arranged for Monday 12th October at Hunsbury Crematorium, Northampton, at 12.30pm and afterwards at Cogenhoe football club. I...

Well Done Patryk and Travis

News image

Sunday 20th September saw the Junior Top 10 competition take place at WDHA TTC in Wellingborough. Westfield had two boys competing, Patryk Polanksi and Travis Holly. Travis had a tough start and lost his first two matches. His next match against Virat Patel was a closely fought contest, with Travis eventually prevailing 17-15 in the fifth end. Other good wins followed but he found top seed Ben Tombs and club mate Patryk a bit too strong. Travis finished in fifth position, which was a good effort. Patryk also had a very good day. Arriving very close to the cut-off time and with very little warm-up, Patryk went out and played some excellent table tennis and won his first eight matches! The final round saw Patryk up against top seed Ben Tombs. A high quality game was played out with Ben winning 3-1 to claim the title. Patryk and Travis have been selected to represent Westfield at Junior British League this seas...

Well Played Evie, Kaitlin and Daria

News image

Sunday 20th September saw the Junior Top 10 competition take place at WDHA TTC in Wellingborough. The girl's event was probably the most well attended for some years with nine players and Westfield had three girls competing. Nine year old Daria Gulbicki showed what a future she has in front of her by winning three matches and just losing 10-12 in the fifth in another match and 15-17 in the fourth to Olivia Berardi-Ross. Eleven year old Kaitlin Curt caused the major upset of the event beating the No. 1 seed Anna Wilson 12-10 in the fifth despite a good come back by the more experienced Anna who was taken aback by losing the first two legs. Kaitlin had previously lost to thirteen year old Evie Elliott her only defeat of the day. So Evie went undefeated into the last round against Anna Wilson but despite some close games she lost the match meaning the top three positions would be deci...
